Nowadays, the number of foreign visitors entering Vietnam is increasing due to various reasons, and for each purpose of entry, there is a corresponding type of Vietnam entry visas
Therefore, if you plan to travel, study, or work in Vietnam, you need to have a basic understanding of the legal information to prepare yourself best. Depending on your nationality and purpose of entry, you may need to apply for an entry visa, residence permit, and/or work permit in Vietnam.
Today we will help you learn about the popular types of Vietnam entry visas and their corresponding characteristics!
According to the new regulations of Law 51/2019/QH14, which is effective from July 01, 2020, first of all, we need to know what a visa is:
An entry visa (commonly known as a visa) is a document issued by the authorized agency of Vietnam, allowing foreigners to enter Vietnam.
- And Vietnamese visas are divided into 21 main types, including: DL, DN1, DN2, NG, DH, LV, HN, PV, VR, TT, LĐ 1, LĐ2, ĐT1, ĐT2, ĐT3, ĐT4, SQ, etc.
Among them, the six most popular types of visas are:
- Tourist Visa
- Business Visa
- Work Visa
- Investment Visa
- Visiting RelativesVisa
- E-Visa (symbol EV) or otherwise known as an E-visa.
Next, we will introduce the outstanding characteristics of each type of VietNam entry visa:
- First: Tourist Visa (symbol DL)
- Issued for foreign visitors coming to Vietnam for tourist purposes.
- And it has a validity period of no more than 30 days.
- Second: Business Visa or Business visa (symbols DN1 – DN2):
Under the new law, this type of visa is divided into two subtypes, including:
- DN1 Visa – issued for foreigners working with companies or other organizations with legal personality according to Vietnamese law.
- DN2 Visa – issued for foreigners to come to sell services, establish a commercial presence, and perform other activities according to international conventions of which Vietnam is a member.
- The business visa has a validity period of no more than 03 months (for single or multiple entries).
- 3rd: Work Visa
- The work visa for foreigners in Vietnam is marked as LD1 and LD2, with a maximum validity period of 2 years.
- LD1 visa – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam who have confirmed that they do not need a work permit, except for cases specified in international agreements where Vietnam is a member with different regulations.
- LD2 visa – Issued to foreigners working in Vietnam who need a work permit.
- 4rd: Investment Visa
- Investment Visa is issued to foreigners investing in Vietnam. Depending on the amount of capital contribution, the investment visa is divided into 04 sub-types, including:
- DT1 visa – Issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign-invested organizations in Vietnam with a capital contribution of 100 billion VND or more or investing in prioritized investment sectors or areas decided by the Government.
- DT2 visa – Issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign-invested organizations in Vietnam with a capital contribution of 50 billion VND to less than 100 billion VND or investing in encouraged investment sectors decided by the Government.
- For DT1 and DT2 visas, the validity period is up to 5 years.
- DT3 visa – Issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign-invested organizations in Vietnam with a capital contribution of 3 billion VND to less than 50 billion VND. For a DT3 visa, the validity period is up to 3 years.
- DT4 visa – Issued to foreign investors and representatives of foreign-invested organizations in Vietnam with a capital contribution of less than 3 billion VND. The validity period for this type of visa is up to 12 months.
- 5rd: Family Visit Visa marked as TT
- Family visit visa is issued to foreign spouses, children under 18 years old of foreigners who have been issued LV1, LV2, LS, DT1, DT2, DT3, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD1, LD2 visas or to foreigners who are the father, mother, husband, wife, child of Vietnamese citizens.
- The family visit visa is valid for up to 12 months.
- Finally, the E-visa (marked as EV) or also known as Electronic Visa
- The E-visa is valid for a maximum of 30 days and can only be used for a single entry. The E-visa holder can enter Vietnam through one of the 33 designated border gates.
- Currently, E-visa is only available to citizens of 80 countries.
